We went to visit our son and daughter-in-law for a week, but that very evening we had to stay in a hotel. It wasn’t the plan, but sometimes things don’t go as expected.

Our son, daughter-in-law, and grandson live in another city, and I miss them dearly. So when my daughter-in-law invited my husband and me to visit for a week, we were overjoyed and immediately made plans to go.

When we arrived, she warmly greeted us, offered refreshments, and we spent the evening laughing and talking. However, when it came time to go to sleep, my daughter-in-law did something that led us to pack our things and head to a hotel instead.

Let me explain what happened, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether I handled the situation correctly. 🤔

Our son met his future wife online. They were in a long-distance relationship for a while, as she lived in another city. He was so in love with her that one day, he packed up and moved to her city. After promising to return in a month with her, he decided to stay there instead, as he found a great job. Soon after, they married and invited my husband and me to their wedding.

My daughter-in-law is a wonderful woman—kind, caring, and easy to talk to. After their wedding, they rented an apartment, but when my daughter-in-law got pregnant, they decided to buy a two-bedroom place.

Though we communicated often over the phone, I missed my son and grandson terribly. I couldn’t wait for the visit. My daughter-in-law, understanding my longing, bought us train tickets and invited us to spend a week with them.

We arrived excited, gifts for the grandson in hand, and were warmly welcomed. We had a lovely evening, but when it came time to sleep, my daughter-in-law told us we would sleep in the children’s room on an inflatable mattress, as they didn’t want anyone else sleeping in their bed.

That’s when my nerves gave out. I was furious and, without hiding my displeasure, said, “I’m not sleeping on the floor! What do you think I am? We’ll go to a hotel.”

At that moment, I knew I couldn’t stay any longer. I was humiliated, and I didn’t want to see my daughter-in-law again. Was I wrong to act this way?
