Simon Cowell has faced multiple health issues following two separate bike accidents over a two-year period. These incidents have had a significant impact on his life and, in many ways, changed his perspective on living.
In a recent appearance on the Today Show, Simon and his fellow America’s Got Talent judges Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, and Terry Crews openly discussed the impact of these accidents. The 63-year-old star recalled his first bike accident in 2020 when he fell from his electric bike in Malibu, followed by another incident in early 2022 while riding through London.
When asked how these experiences had altered his outlook on life in a promotional piece for the 18th season of America’s Got Talent, Simon reflected on his physical state before the accidents. «I wasn’t in the best shape before the accidents, so they were far from fantastic, actually terrible,» he admitted. It wasn’t until the healing process began that he realized how inadequate he had been before.
Simon described the journey as «a revelation,» saying it was «a truly divine moment.» Despite the setbacks, he remained committed to riding and jokingly stated, “I will never give up my bike,” much to the amusement of his co-stars. After the second accident, Simon was hospitalized with a broken arm and a concussion. The accident wasn’t as severe as the first, but it left him with a fractured back, requiring months of recovery, including wearing a wrist brace.
Following these incidents, Simon made lifestyle changes for the benefit of his nine-year-old son, Eric, and his fiancée, Lauren Silverman. Simon shared in an interview with The Sun that his recovery process led him to consider therapy for the first time, as he struggled with his emotions and how to express them to Eric.
During this period, his son made light of the situation, comparing Simon’s recovery to Iron Man, a comparison that Simon embraced, proudly recalling, “When I met my family, Eric said, ‘Dad, you look like Iron Man.’” With a smile, Simon added, “Yes, I’m actually like Iron Man.”
Despite the seriousness of his injuries, Simon now laughs at his earlier struggles and is determined to keep pushing forward. His journey is a testament to his unshakable resolve, and his ability to find humor and strength even in the most challenging times.
