One day, while we were at the park, Sofía didn’t want to stop swinging. Amélie, noticing Sofía’s reluctance, gently said, “If you swing higher, you could touch the clouds.” Sofía’s eyes lit up in excitement, and she asked, “Really?” Amélie smiled and said, “Yes, I used to think that when I was your age.” The connection between them felt so natural, and when Amélie suggested we move into the house she had inherited, it felt like the right decision.
Sofía’s joy when she saw her new room was heartwarming. “This is a princess room!” she exclaimed. Later, when I had to go on a business trip, I was nervous about leaving them behind. Amélie reassured me, saying she and Sofía would have time together. However, when I returned, Sofía hugged me tightly and whispered, “Dad, the new mom isn’t the same when you’re not here.” Sofía shared that Amélie had been too strict, not allowing her candy or freedom to play.
That night, after following Amélie to the attic, I discovered that Amélie had turned it into a beautiful space for Sofía, complete with cozy cushions, books, and fairy lights. Amélie had intended it as a surprise, but I was still concerned. After some conversation, Amélie admitted that she had been too strict, but her intentions were to teach independence. She promised to be gentler, and Sofía accepted the changes joyfully. I felt a deep sense of peace knowing that our family’s happiness was once again secure.
