This incredible woman turned an old airplane into a cozy home. After purchasing a decommissioned passenger plane, she transformed it into a fully functional living space, complete with three bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen. Take a look inside this one-of-a-kind home.
Jo Ann Assari’s story began with tragic events that changed her life. In 1993, her house in Benoit, Mississippi, was destroyed, leaving her and her two children homeless. Things were made even worse when her husband suddenly passed away, leaving the family not only without a home but also without a stable financial foundation.
In desperate need of housing, Jo Ann initially considered buying a trailer as a temporary solution, but she quickly realized that she couldn’t afford a large enough space for her family of three. That’s when her father-in-law, Bob, an air traffic controller, suggested an unconventional idea: to use a retired airplane as a home.
Inspired by this idea, Jo Ann immediately began to make it a reality. The renovation of the old plane cost around $30,000, which was still cheaper than purchasing traditional housing. The airplane turned out to be the perfect choice: at 138 feet (42 meters) long and with 76 windows, it provided enough space for comfortable living.
Inside the plane, Jo Ann created a cozy home with three bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and even a laundry area. Along with a washing machine and dryer, the house also had a phone and an oven, making life inside the plane as comfortable as possible. This unconventional project not only provided housing for her family but also attracted public attention.
