😿 The Scratch I Will Never Forget 💔
It was a warm afternoon, the kind where the sun feels soft and the world seems gentle. I walked home from the market, humming to myself, when I noticed a small stray cat sitting by the sidewalk. 🐈 Its fur was messy, eyes tired, but something about it felt… vulnerable.
I knelt down slowly.
“Hey little one,” I whispered, offering my hand.
At first, the cat leaned into my touch, rubbing its head against my fingers. I smiled, glad to give just a moment of comfort to a forgotten soul. But then—so suddenly I didn’t even see it happen—it scratched.
A deep, burning swipe across my wrist. 😣
I pulled my hand back, surprised, but I didn’t think too much of it. “Just a scratch,” I told myself. I washed it and moved on.
That night, everything felt normal. But by the next morning… my world changed.
A sharp fever hit me like a wave 🌡️🔥. My hands were shaking, my heart racing. Every sound felt too loud, every light too bright. I could barely stand. My family rushed me to the hospital.

The doctor examined my wound, listened to my symptoms, then asked the question that made my stomach tighten:
“Was it a stray cat?”
I nodded slowly.
The doctor’s expression shifted—serious, almost fearful.
He spoke carefully, but every word struck like ice:
“We need to test for rabies.”
Rabies. The word echoed in my mind. A disease I had only heard about in stories… deadly stories. 💔
They acted fast. Tests, injections, urgent treatments. My mind was foggy, but I remember one thing clearly: the doctor’s voice.
“If we act quickly, you’ll be safe. Do not be afraid. You came in time.”
But fear was there.
Raw. Heavy. Cold. 🥺
Later, animal control located the cat. It was weak, shaking… and the results confirmed what the doctor feared. The cat had rabies.
When they told me, I froze.
Not because of anger or disgust…
But because suddenly, I understood.

The cat had been suffering.
Alone. Scared. Dying.
And I—thinking I was giving comfort—had touched a creature already lost to pain.
I cried. Not for myself…
But for that lonely animal that never asked for this fate. 😔🐾
Days passed. With treatment, my fever eased, my strength returned. I was lucky—so lucky. Many people don’t get help in time. Many ignore the “small scratch.”

Now, when I see stray animals, I still feel love, but also responsibility.
I learned something powerful:
❗ Kindness must walk with caution.
❗ Love must walk with knowledge.
Because sometimes, even gentle moments carry hidden shadows.
But I do not regret caring.
I regret not understanding soon enough.

Today, I share my story so others will be safe, aware, and thoughtful.
Because compassion is never wrong—
But protecting yourself matters too. 💖

And somewhere, in a quiet corner of my memory,
That little cat still sits
In the warm sunlight
Just wanting to be seen. 🌤️🐈💞
