When rain caused flooing, it demolished scores of homes displacing dozens of people.
A woman and her husband were among the casualties, but they were responsible for at least some of the destruction to their home — and with good reason.

When the floodwaters began to rise around them last week, the family ran inside to save their animals. The cat, on the other hand, believed she had discovered a secure refuge where she could wait out the storm. She was mistaken.
«To avoid the rain, our cat preferred to hide beneath the house,» the family explained. «We began to hear meows coming from beneath our bedroom floor. »
As floodwaters began to rise under her house, the cat became stuck. The cat had been wet through and through, but was otherwise unhurt. She had been rescued at precisely the right time.
«I was ecstatic. «I started crying out of despair and ended up crying tears of joy,» the family explained. «The water was barely a few millimeters from the ground,» says the narrator. She was saved by a little pocket of air that kept her alive until we arrived.
