The cat serves as the deaf sailor’s ears and assists him in navigating at sea

Andrew, the Maine Coon Jihyo’s owner and a sailor, took him on his first sea cruise along the coast of New Zealand when he was just 4 months old.

Jihyo became an excellent travel buddy for the sailor Andrew. But there’s one more way the Maine Coon assists his owner.

Andrew is completely deaf, and the cat aids him in navigating and detecting sounds in space. ‘Jihyo is my ears,’ Andrew explains.

‘Without any preparation, he instantly understood that I couldn’t hear anything and thus provided me with indications.’

I enjoy his company and have learned to see things from his perspective. When you have a cat on board, you must adjust to his slower pace of life.

He simply accepted these journeys as part of his daily routine, and he would be astonished to learn that there are cats who do not swim in boats.

Andrew thinks that after reading his story, many sailors would want to take their cats sailing with them, which will benefit both parties because cats are excellent friends and grow bored sitting at home.

Jihyo and his owner have Facebook and Instagram sites where you may follow their activities.
