Six newborn kittens were discovered on board by these sailors, whose mother had abandoned them in the nets shortly after their birth. The babies were cleaned and put in a clean fish bowl.
The sailors were unable to return to the harbor, but they lacked the required supplies to care for the newborn kittens.
The fisherman contacted an animal rescue group to see what they could do to aid the kittens. On the suggestion of experts, they placed warm water in the box and monitored the children’s temperature. On the cruise, there were no baby bottles or formula.
The sailors located the only thing suited for feeding after scouring the yacht — a little plastic bottle.
They were diluted with a mild syrup of sugar mixed in water when the shelter informed them that they could not feed the kittens with regular milk.
One of the sailors thoroughly washed the bottle and began feeding glucose to the foundlings every hour. The kittens were still alive four days later.
When it came time for the crew to return to shore, they were relieved to be able to leave the kittens in the capable care of volunteers. Four of the six kittens unfortunately passed. The remaining two puppies from the litter are still alive. If luck is on his side, a sailor has already declared his desire to adopt one kitten.
