Minnesota’s northwest was pounded by a snowstorm. A dog had given birth and her six puppies were captured in the forest by bad weather.
The young mother was in a terrible situation: she needed food and a warm place to stay, but she didn’t want to abandon her children.
The dog dug a tiny burrow in the snow to keep himself warm. Her milk was gone due to hunger and cold, and the family was bound to die.
Fortunately, aid arrived in time, and the dog was discovered. What the staff at the shelter witnessed astounded them.
According to the puppies’ ages, the mother had been lying with them in the snow for at least three weeks. The shelter is baffled as to how the dog and puppies managed to live in such dire circumstances.
When they were brought in, the young mother was hardly able to stand. She was frail and fearful of others, yet she lacked aggressiveness.
The dog’s milk returned after a few days of being warm and full, and she began to feel better. In just six weeks, the shelter workers found four pups new homes.
The two who stayed with their mother continued to live in the shelter, but only for a short time before a line of people waiting to take the children home formed. The dog has improved: she has gained a few pounds and has entirely recovered.
