This old armchair had been sitting in my parents’ house for years, and they decided it was time to throw it out. 😊 However, instead of discarding it, I decided to give it a full transformation. 🥰 Take a look at what I managed to do! 👇👇
When I first looked at the armchair, I noticed that, overall, it was in decent shape, but the upholstery definitely needed some attention. Perhaps our family cats had left their mark over the years, as they couldn’t resist. Still, we decided to completely transform it.
The first step was carefully disassembling the chair, removing the old fabric – which we could later use as a template.
Then, we took out the old foam and straps, taking pictures at every step to ensure we could reassemble it like new.
The wooden parts appeared solid, except for one leg. We carefully glued it and let it dry overnight.
While waiting for the leg to dry, we focused on the seat base. I used 16 meters of furniture strapping to make sure it was as sturdy and comfortable as possible.
Next, we created a new seat base with foam and batting. The old fabric served as a template for the new upholstery, but given the added thickness of the foam, I added a few extra centimeters.
My mom chose a fabric with a geometric pattern, which was tricky, especially when working with the armrests – but I managed it.
We then worked on the wooden elements, treating them with special products and sanding them down to restore their original shine.
Finally, we focused on the finishing touches for the wood – using oil with wax in a walnut shade to bring out the natural beauty of the beech.
When the armchair was fully reassembled, we made sure every piece fit perfectly.
The result exceeded all expectations! I think we did a fantastic job! What do you think?
