For seven years, a dog and a man lived in the Italian countryside. These were happy and loving years, with man and dog always eager to snuggle and play.
The father was no longer young, but the dog was full of energy, and they built a lovely family together. Their time together had unfortunately come to an end. The man became ill and was admitted to the hospital.
And his daughter, who lived nearby with her kid, took the dog. They became attracted to the little dog right away, but the dog yearned and waited for his true owner.
However, the man did not return. Her father’s ashes were interred in a nearby cemetery. The entire family attended the funeral.
Only the dog was missing – the dog was at home alone. When Sara’s father was buried, the dog rushed around the house and yard, smelling him and attempting to find where he was hidden. And he discovered it. The day after the funeral, the entire family piled into a car and drove to the cemetery to pay their respects to their father.
The dog was left at home once more. When the man’s relatives lay flowers on his grave and sat down to remember him, they realized they were not alone in their grief. They had a dog sitting next to them! Perhaps he simply followed the path of the family car.
But the dog was clearly relieved to be reunited with his owner, if only in spirit. The man’s daughter believes that the dog pays daily visits to his late owner. His heart is as full of sorrow as Sara’s — and it’s a good thing they have one other to help them get through the mutual agony.
